In the lead up to Defqon.1 Australia we have a chat to some of the artists who have never been Down Under before. We find out how they started their career, their personal highlights so far and what they are most looking forward to during their visit to Australia. This week... Korsakoff!
Who: Korsakoff
Playing: Black (hardcore)
When and how did you start your career? Tell us a little bit about your history…
I have been playing professionally for 7 years now, before that period I was just a music fanatic like many embracing hardcore music. Mid to late nineties I got infected by the virus, in those days mostly the happy hardcore stuff by people like Paul Elstak and Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo. Occasionally I visited parties and the artists always impressed me, I wanted the same. In 2004 I got my big break, I did a project with Outblast that resulted in that years’ Masters of Hardcore anthem “Unleash the Beast”. This became a huge hit and opened the gates for me.
How can we characterize your music style?
Euphoric, uplifting, raw.
How did you come up with your artist name?
Many think there is a reason or story behind it; truth is that it was just a name that came up. I needed an artist name and I felt it sounded hardcore but still suited me as a female artist.
I think it sounded cool!
What are your highlights of your career so far?
Without a doubt Masters of Hardcore, Mayday and my European “Pink Noise by Korsakoff tour”!
I have a feeling my time at Defqon.1 Australia will be a highlight for sure.
How do you spend your time when not dj’ing or producing music?
I love to be around the house, work in my garden and chill out with family. I also have another passion; my own online jewellery store k-jewels.com is growing rapidly and takes a lot of my time!
What editions of Defqon.1 have you played at so far and how was your experience?
I have played on a Dutch edition back to back with Outblast. It’s definitely one of the biggest hard dance festivals in the Netherlands and it has its own unique vibe. You have to experience it to know what I’m talking about!
What can we expect from your set at Defqon.1 Australia?
I released my “Pink Noise” album recently and will be playing a lot of my own music of course. I love that euphoric party vibe so I play a lot of tunes that make that happen.
Who are you going to check out at the festival?
I will see where the festival brings me, of course I will check Evil Activities & Outblast, for the rest I will just enjoy and see what happens!
How long are you staying in Australia and what’s on your to-do list during that time?
I stay for a short week and I will try to see as much as possible! We (my partner Outblast & I) wanted to stay longer but the busy agenda’s didn’t allow that to happen. But we have some local friends in Oz, and they promised to let us see as much as possible in the short time we have.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Working passionately as always.
But first things first, next stop: DEFQON.1 AUSTRALIA!!!!
